[i've been cross posting this to all my haunts, so i'm really sorry if you've already seen this a billion times. just trying to let everyone know... it's my best life story to date!]
monday night a car crashed through our dining room wall...
what essentially went down was my fella and i were in the living room (i was sitting on the floor eating soup, my fella was asleep on the adjacent couch), brody was in his crate at the end of the living room, and jojo was in her cage in the dining room.
the car clobbered the mail boxes on the side of our house, smashed into the corner of our fence, and veered around and crashed into the brick wall of our house. the car took out the little dividing wall by the front door, and smashed the sofa into the other side of the room before the whole car came to rest in our house.
all in reverse.
the ferret cage was on the other side of the wreck so we couldn't get to her right away. a lot of debris made it into her cage but she was unharmed (i had to keep her in the laundry hamper until we could get to her cage and clean it out.) we put brody on the tie out. from where the car came in, they were the ones who saw the whole thing. we were blind to the incident until we stood up and turned to see that the deafening sound (which we initially though was a thunder strike, or maybe even plane debris) was a car.
had he not swerved, he would have mowed me and richard over by the looks of the path he was taking.
the story is that he was trying to back his dad's car out (without his permission) so he could play basketball in the driveway, and lost control of the vehicle.
i probably should be madder than i am, but really it's just remarkable no one at all got hurt. and really, the damage could have been a lot worse. had he gone through any other area, there would have been sever structural damage, or a greater loss of valuable property, or worse. what that kid did was really stupid and i hope he knows it, but right now i'm just glad this didn't turn out worse. you can replace a wall and you can replace a car, but...
we had neighbors, relatives, and friends come by to help so that helped out the most. the hole was boarded up and in the nick of time too, since thunderstorm dumped ass on us not long after. the sound of thunder had us on edge the whole night. it looks lie insurance will cover most of the cost. the house belongs to richard's father who has been renting out the house to us.
anyway, that's that! i'm tired as hell, but just glad no one was hurt
